The BA in International Communication and Multimedia is a stimulating study programme that will provide you with theoretical and practical knowledge that enables you to work within a wide variety of fields.
The aim of the International Communication and Multimedia study programme is to qualify you to play a central role in any organisation by performing almost any kind of communicative task in English. The international orientation of the studies will give you the necessary tools to deal with working situations anywhere in the world.

The ICM Study Programme
All courses in the International Communication and Multimedia study programme are taught in English. The study programme covers two main subject areas, a series of commen core subjects, as well as a series of electives:
- Communication and English. Your verbal and written skills are strengthened while you gain a solid knowledge of cross-cultural and intercultural communication issues and strategies. Subjects within this field include: Language Proficiency, Culture, Business Communication and International Communication, among others
- Media Production. You will learn how to develop digital communication and marketing strategies by working with websites, digital imaging, animation, DTP, and CD-ROM production. You will obtain knowledge of more than just the simple design line by using the theoretical knowledge acquired from your other courses
- Common core subjects include Project Management, International Law and Theory of Science and Marketing where you will be given a thorough introduction to marketing theories both in national and international contexts. The theory will be tested on cases conducted continuously throughout the study programme. The purpose is to provide you with solid knowledge of marketing and make you capable of choosing and applying problem-solving methods.
The experience in project work that you will acquire during your studies is invaluable as you will be able to work as part of a multicultural team developing fully functional solutions for your employers and customers. Your professional level in English language and your insight in media related subjects will provide you with access to further education in a variety of fields. You will also be able to start your own business on a very solid ground.
The international orientation of the study programme is reinforced with a compulsory period abroad during the fourth semester for students holding a Danish citizenship. This period will give you an insight into studying and/or working in a real international environment within your field of study. Students without a Danish passport typically spend the semester as interns in Danish or international companies.
Teaching takes place at AU Herning.
Admission requirements
To be admitted to the study programme you must, at least, have passed a high school exam (equivalent to 12 years of school). The following requirements must also be met:
- English at A-level. The language qualifications comparable to an 'English A-level' in Denmark can be documented as follows:
- TOEFL test results of at least 600 (paper-based) or 100 (internet-based test). The Aarhus University TOEFL code is 8935.
- IELTS test with a minimum score of 7.0 points
- Cambridge/Oxford test: Certificate of Proficiency (CPE)
- “C2 level” obtained by examination from a CEFR validated English language course
- English-taught entrance examination (“upper secondary school/high school”) or Bachelor’s degree.
- Furthermore, an additional language – other than Danish and English – equivalent to the Danish A level (minimum 260 hours of instruction)
- Also either history, social subjects or contemporary history equivalent to the Danish B level (minimum 150 hours of instruction) is required.
To obtain an assessment of of your subject levels in the additional language and either history, social subjects or contemporary history, you must provide official documentation of the total number of hours/lessons of teaching you have received in the specific, relevant subjects during your final three upper secondary/high school years. The applicant must meet and document the general and specific admission requirements before 5 July in order to be considered for admission.
PLEASE NOTICE: For non-EU citizens the tuition fee for the ICM study programme is EUR 8,500 per year.
